The Academy released a research study, Estimating the Potential Health Care Savings of Reference Pricing, which explores the possibility of using reference pricing to address health care costs, and builds upon existing research by estimating the impact of expanding reference pricing to a broader set of health care services.
In the October Actuarial Update, the Academy’s Annual Meeting and Public Policy Forum kicks off Thursday in Washington, D.C.—several sessions will be livestreamed on the Academy’s Facebook page, including the presidential transition, awards ceremony, and a health breakout session on reference pricing.
The Life Operational Risk Work Group submitted a follow-up letter to the NAIC on the exposed Life Risk-Based Capital growth charge proposal.
Academy members are being asked to vote on two proposals to amend the Academy’s bylaws. Adoption of either or both of these proposals will require a two-thirds majority of members voting. The ballot and supporting materials are being sent via email to all members of the Academy who were members as of Oct. 22, or for those members without email or who have opted out of receiving email, by paper ballot. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. EST on Nov. 9, 2018.
