ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
The Medicare program faces both short- and long-term financing challenges: Medicare’s Hospital Insurance expenditures are expected to exceed revenues beginning in 2030; the HI Trust Fund is projected to be depleted in 2036; and Medicare spending on the whole is increasing as a share of the economy. Medicare Advantage plans, intended to provide higher-quality and lower-cost health care, now enroll about half of all Medicare beneficiaries.
In this webinar, the chief actuary for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provided an overview of the Medicare Trustees Report findings and highlighted the challenges to the program’s solvency and sustainability. Next, a representative from Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) discussed their work examining the impact of Medicare Advantage on the program's financial status, including their recent analyses of the effects of coding intensity and selection.
