Online Election of Academy Board Regular Directors Underway
Members’ election of Academy Board Regular Directors kicked off Aug. 13 and will run for two weeks. All Academy members eligible as of Aug. 6 voting eligibility cutoff date should receive ballots via email following a previous email earlier this month from the Academy’s election vendor Intelliscan (academy@intelliscaninc.net).
The nominees are:
- Dorothy Andrews, chairperson of the Data Science and Analytics Committee, is also on the P/C Racial Equity Task Force and is a past member of the Committee on Professional Responsibility and the Life and Health Valuation Law Manual Review Task Force.
- Chris Carlson, a current regular director, a former Actuarial Standards Board (ASB) member, and a former special director by dint of his previous position as president of the Casualty Actuarial Society—is nominated to serve a full three-year term after joining the Board last year to complete a vacated one-year term.
- Annette James, a member of the Health Practice Council (HPC) and chairperson of the HPC’s Health Equity Work Group, which was formed last year. She has served on the ASB’s Health Committee, and many HPC committees and work groups.
Online voting will run through Friday, Aug. 27, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. If you need help with or have questions about your ballot, please email Intelliscan’s Keith Wier (kwier@intelliscaninc.com). All members are encouraged to take part in the Academy’s election process.

Academy Board Nominees Announced
The Nominating Committee reported on the slate of three individuals nominated to serve as regular directors on the Board, with three-year terms beginning in November. Candidacies for regular director candidates, who will begin their terms on the Board at the conclusion of the Academy’s annual meeting in November, will be open to be voted on by the membership in an online election later this summer.
The nominees to be regular directors, who will serve three-year terms, are:
- Dorothy Andrews, chairperson of the Data Science and Analytics Committee;
- Chris Carlson, a former Actuarial Standards Board member; and
- Annette James, chairperson of the Health Equity Work Group.
Dorothy Andrews, a member of RMFRC and chairperson of the Data Science and Analytics Committee, is also on the P/C Racial Equity Task Force, and is a past member of the Committee on Professional Responsibility and the Life and Health Valuation Law Manual Review Task Force.
Chris Carlson, a current regular director, is a former Actuarial Standards Board (ASB) member and ASB liaison to many Academy public policy committees, a member of the Casualty Practice Council—and a former special director by dint of his previous position as president of the Casualty Actuarial Society—and is nominated to serve a full three-year term after coming onto the Board last year to complete a vacated one-year term.
Annette James is a member of the Health Practice Council (HPC) and is chairperson of the Health Equity Work Group, which was formed last year. She has served on the ASB’s Health Committee, and many HPC committees and work groups, including the Health Practice International Committee.
The nominating process is designed to bring to the Board regular director candidates with an ability and willingness to serve the Academy, demonstrated by their prior volunteer service. The entire slate of new directors was chosen to provide a balanced distribution across practice areas and business affiliations in accordance with the Nominating Committee Guidelines.

Nominate Academy Regular Directors
It’s time once again to share your recommendations for Academy regular directors, elected to the Board of Directors by Academy membership in an online election in the summer from a slate of candidates presented by the Nominating Committee. The committee will be considering new candidates for regular directors in the next few months in accordance with the criteria provided in the Nominating Committee Guidelines. Nominations are due April 15, 2021.
