November 18, 2014
In my first communication as president to Academy members, I’m pleased to tell you that there will be no dues increase in 2015. This is the fourth consecutive year the Academy has held dues steady.
Our financial position remains strong—as does our membership, which is steadily growing. Your membership supports the valuable work of the Academy to assure actuarial professionalism and involvement by the profession in important public policy issues.
As an MAAA, you demonstrate—along with more than 18,000 other U.S. actuaries—your personal commitment to responsible actuarial practice and professionalism. In addition, you gain the reputational excellence that derives from our unified voice to provide trusted, objective analysis to policymakers to support the well-being of all Americans. And we are truly unified—the Academy is the only association solely devoted to focusing on practice in the United States in all areas of actuarial discipline.
Please take a moment to review some of the Academy’s mission-critical work in 2014. The Record highlights issues the Academy has addressed in public policy and professionalism this past year.
Below you will find instructions on how to pay your 2015 membership dues. Your continued membership confers valuable benefits:
- Visible affiliation with an organization that maintains the profession’s integrity and professionalism in the public sphere.
- A voice to provide objective, authoritative analysis to policymakers on issues that benefit the common good.
- Trusted information about the actuarial profession, so you can stay abreast of regulatory changes that affect your work.
- Opportunities for essential continuing education credits through our extensive webinars and conferences that address all practice areas.
- Career growth through service on committees or work groups.
- Respected standing among peers and clients who recognize the Academy’s standards and values.
As you know, the coming year is a major milestone for the Academy. Our 50th anniversary is a good time to reflect on the accomplishments of the past five decades...and to look forward to the work still to be done. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together in 2014, and I’m confident the Academy will continue its strong leadership role for our profession in 2015 and beyond.
On behalf of the board and staff, I want to sincerely thank you for your continued membership and dedication to serving the U.S. actuarial profession and public. The Academy looks forward to serving you in 2015.
