News from the American Academy of Actuaries
Orange bullet 2013 VOLUNTEER SURVEY

April 24, 2013

Dear Academy Colleague,

64.3 million Americans, more than one in four adults, volunteered their time through a formal organization (in 2011), the highest level in five years.

It’s no wonder given the numerous benefits of volunteering.  Not only does a volunteer get the satisfaction of sharing talent and time to make things better than they were. S/he also gets to connect to others while developing both personally and professionally.

As a volunteer-driven organization of more than 17,500 members, the Academy offers a wide-range of opportunities for actuaries in every practice area to volunteer to help strengthen the profession and weigh in on vital public policy issues.

In fact, to get the most value from your membership in the Academy, take a moment now to find a volunteer opportunity that interests you most. Above and beyond the benefits of regular membership, you:

  • Make a difference.
  • Develop as a leader.
  • Extensively deepen and expand your actuarial expertise.
  • Make profound professional and personal connections.
  • Gain exceptional understanding of issues that affect actuarial work and practices.
  • Could earn additional continuing education (CE) credit.

You can see which volunteer opportunity is right for you when you take a moment to respond to this year's survey by clicking this link [Academy Volunteer Survey].  The survey takes only a few minutes, and lists available Academy committees, along with a brief description of each. Here you can indicate your interests, and should provide brief information about how your background or skills are a good fit for a particular committee. The survey will be open until Friday, May 24th.

Of course, all volunteers must acknowledge the Academy’s Conflict of Interest (COI) policy and acknowledge compliance with the U.S. Qualification Standards’ Continuing Education (CE) requirements in the survey. For more information about these policies please visit http://www.actuary.org/content/conflict-interest-policy.

If you have any questions about volunteering or about the survey, please contact Kasha Shelton either by email at volunteer@actuary.org or by phone at (202) 223-8196.

Thank you in advance for volunteering
