This 90-minute webcast includes a discussion of principle-related developments at the NAIC summer meeting. It is part of a series of webcasts on the Academy’s efforts to help develop a principle-based approach for regulating life reserves and capital.
About the webcast
The webcast will cover the latest principle-based reserving (PBR) developments
at the NAIC's Life and Health Actuarial Task Force (LHATF), including:
- The status of the draft Standard Valuation Law as it moves closer to possible adoption by LHATF
- Updates on recent revisions in the proposed new valuation manual by LHATF's PBR Subgroups for Life, Reporting and Review; Reinsurance; Health; Experience Reporting; and Process and Coordination
- Next steps and timelines for the proposed Standard Valuation law and valuation manual
- An overview of the work of the new Corporate Governance Subgroup of the NAIC PBR (EX) Working Group
Speakers
The speakers are NAIC Life and Health Actuarial Task Force (LHATF) members who chair LHATF groups that are looking at various aspects of the Standard Valuation Law and Valuation Manual, and who have led Academy efforts to provide the initial recommendations to LHATF. The speakers are:

CE credit
The American Academy of Actuaries believes in good faith that the "Principle-Based Update 11" webcast constitutes an organized activity as defined under the current Qualification Standards for Actuaries Issuing Statements of Actuarial Opinion in the United States.
Under these Qualification Standards, an hour of continuing education is defined as 50 minutes, and fractions of an hour may be counted.
