The Actuarial Update

The Actuarial Update is the Academy's monthly membership newsletter that focuses on the Academy's activities in public policy and professionalism. Each month, an e-mail with a link to a PDF file of the new issue of the Update is sent to all Academy members.

Members are encouraged to submit articles on committee activities, emerging public policy or professionalism issues, or general topics of particular interest to actuaries. It is important that prospective authors contact the editor as early as possible to discuss space availability, editorial guidelines, publication timing, etc. Additional time is needed to review unsolicited articles.

Submission deadline. Articles are due no later than the first week of the month prior to the publication date. For example, articles for the January issue must be submitted by December 7. This schedule allows time for articles to be edited and reviewed by the author and members of the Update's Editorial Board, before going into layout.

Make sure you're receiving e-mail notification of Actuarial Update

If you're an Academy member and don't receive e-mails notifying you that the current issue of the Update is online, then the Academy doesn't have your correct e-mail information. You can verify your contact information on the Academy's member log-in page. You can make the changes yourself online or send an e-mail to membership@actuary.org. In addition, don't forget to check your personal account settings on your log-in page to make sure you have allowed the Academy to notify you of its publications via e-mail.

Awards

The quality of the Update's content and design has been recognized by members and by publishing professionals. The Update has won numerous Society of National Association Publications awards in recent years, including

• national gold awards for general excellence, newswriting, and most improved newsletter.
• national silver awards for general excellence.
