Grace Hinchman: Academy's new executive director
May 12, 2008 — The Academy welcomes Grace Hinchman as its new executive director.
Before joining the Academy, Hinchman was senior vice president at Financial Executives International. A professional association, FEI works with regulators and legislators on behalf of the 15,000 corporate financial executives who are its members.
Hinchman has more than 25 years of expertise in public policy advocacy, including playing a significant role in gaining the passage of Sarbanes Oxley Act sections 406 and 407, which call for ethical codes of conduct for corporate CFOs and audit committee financial experts. At FEI, her management responsibilities have included public affairs, conferences, technical activities, and professional development programs.
Earlier, Hinchman was the manager of public affairs for Digital Equipment Corp., where she was responsible for the company’s government relations office in Washington. She also was the managing director of a cellular and paging industry association, and she began her career on Capitol Hill serving on the staffs of House and Senate members, including Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York.
Academy President Bill Bluhm said the Academy’s search committee was impressed not just by Hinchman’s public policy expertise and her experience at an association that is similar to the Academy in a number of ways, but also by her strategic thinking and managerial strengths. The search committee was chaired by Bluhm; its other members were President-Elect John Parks and former Academy presidents Steve Lehmann, Dan McCarthy, and Peter Perkins.
Hinchman, who began working at the Academy today, is the first woman to serve as the Academy’s executive director. She succeeds Kevin Cronin, who retired in March from full-time employment.
Hinchman holds a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. from George Washington University.
