  • New webinar: Understanding the ACA—Rate Filing Review and Disclosure. Join members of the Rate Review Practice Note Work Group on Oct. 12 to learn more about the review and disclosure requirements of “unreasonable” rate increases under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Presenters will provide an overview of the final practice note and answer questions.
  • Just announced: Save the date for the Nov. 1 IFRS Update Webinar with a report on the FASB and IASB insurance contracts project; IASB’s work on Phase 2 with resulting significant changes to the International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) on insurance contracts; and potential changes to U.S. GAAP. Stay tuned for more information!
  • The audio recording is now available for the professionalism webinar, Precept 13—How Do I Comply In A Self-Regulating Profession? Speakers gave an overview of Precept 13 and discussed how to consider applying it in a self-regulating profession. Several case studies also were covered. Upcoming Events

  • There’s still time to register for the Academy Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon. The Academy will transition presidential leadership from Dave Sandberg to Cecil Bykerk, announce winners of the annual awards, and hear from keynote speaker Stu Rothenberg. The Oct. 15 luncheon is included in your registration if you are attending the SOA meeting. Academy members who are not attending the SOA meeting may purchase a ticket for $70.
  • The full agenda is now available for the P/C Effective Loss Reserve Opinion Seminar—Tools for the Appointed Actuary. The agenda for this Nov. 7–8 seminar includes new breakout sessions and hands-on workshops led by experienced faculty members who will guide you through the requirements and recent changes to those requirements for writing P/C loss reserve opinions for year-end 2012.
  • Registrations are close to capacity for the Life and Health Qualifications Seminar! This Nov. 12–15 seminar is the primary source of instruction for actuaries who wish to be qualified to issue actuarial opinions for either the NAIC Life and A&H Annual Statement or the NAIC Health Annual Statement but may not have met the specific qualification requirements set forth in the U.S. Qualification Standards.
