Tales From the Dark Side: Ethical Cases at the ABCD

Dec. 20, 2017
Noon-1:30 p.m. EST

In the course of performing actuarial work, you may be confronted with an ethical issue that you are unsure how to resolve. During this webinar, our presenters—both members of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline (ABCD)—examined case studies and examples of ethical problems brought before the ABCD and, drawing on the standards of actuarial professionalism, discussed what steps the actuary could take in each case. They also discussed the information and guidance the ABCD has provided to practicing actuaries in such situations through the ABCD’s request for guidance process.

CONTINUING EDUCATION AND JBEA CPE CREDIT.
The American Academy of Actuaries believes in good faith that attendance at this live professionalism webinar constitutes an organized activity as defined under the current Qualification Standards for Actuaries Issuing Statements of Actuarial Opinion in the United States, and that attendees may earn up to 1.8 CE credits for attending this live webinar.

We also believe in good faith that Enrolled Actuaries may earn 1.8 continuing professionalism education (CPE) core ethics credits under the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) rules for attending this live webinar. However, the JBEA ultimately determines what constitutes core, non-core, ethics, or non-ethics continuing education and the number of CPE credit hours allocated to same for enrolled actuaries.

The Academy’s professionalism webinars, offered quarterly, are a popular resource for essential information and CE credits for actuaries from all practice areas. They focus on a wide range of topics, including updates on actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs), interpretation and application of the U.S. Qualification Standards, and the Code of Professional Conduct. Members have free access to archived slides and audio from the Academy’s comprehensive series of webinars.
