American Academy of Actuaries Announces Election of New Regular Directors
WASHINGTON -- Nov. 8, 2010 -- The American Academy of Actuaries announced that its members elected five regular directors today at its annual meeting. The regular directors will serve on the association's board of directors.
American Academy of Actuaries Senior Pension Fellow Todisco Selected as Chief Actuary of the GAO
WASHINGTON -- Nov. 22, 2010 -- Frank Todisco, the American Academy of Actuaries senior pension fellow, will become the chief actuary of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) beginning Jan. 3, 2011. The American Academy of Actuaries announced today that Todisco will step down from the senior pension fellow position on Nov. 24.
Curtis Huntington Appointed Chairperson of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline
WASHINGTON -- Dec. 13, 2010 -- Curtis Huntington will become the chairperson of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline on Jan. 1. He was appointed to the post by the Council of U.S. Presidents, a committee comprised of the presidents and presidents-elect of the five U.S.-based actuarial organizations. Huntington has served on the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline since 2008 and was the chairperson in 2009. He will succeed Carol Sears, who served as the chairperson in 2010.
Actuaries Comment on Public Pension Plan Disclosures
WASHINGTON -- Dec. 13, 2010 -- The American Academy of Actuaries emphasized today the importance of meaningful and consistent disclosures by state and local government pension plans. With the Dec. 2 introduction of the Public Employee Pension Transparency Act by Rep. Devin Nunes, the Academy offered context for evaluating the pension disclosures included in that legislation or that may be included in any other disclosure proposals.

Actuaries: Removing Individual Coverage Mandate Would Require Alternatives
WASHINGTON -- March 28, 2011 -- The individual health insurance coverage mandate is such a vital component of the year-old health reform law that, if removed, alternatives would be needed. The American Academy of Actuaries said that the mandate serves to help attract low-risk individuals, which is necessary to prevent adverse selection to keep the health insurance markets viable.
