Capitol Hill briefing
on Social Security

Sept. 5, 2008
121 Cannon House Office Building
Washington

Following up on the national release of the Academy's recommendation to raise the Social Security retirement age, this Capitol Hill briefing provided an actuarial perspective and explained the analysis that led to the recommendation.

In its recommendation, the Academy is urging public policymakers to immediately address Social Security’s long-term actuarial imbalance by increasing the retirement age to reflect increased longevity.

The Capitol Hill briefing was led by Tom Terry, the Academy's vice president for pension issues, and Bruce Schobel, chairperson of the Academy's Retirement Security Principles Task Force.
