Academy news conference
on Social Security retirement age

Aug. 4, 2008 — The American Academy of Actuaries is urging policymakers to immediately address Social Security's long-term financial problems by raising the normal retirement age to reflect increased longevity.

The position statement was developed by the Academy’s Board of Directors and issued on behalf of the U.S. actuarial profession.
